COMMUNITY ART

At Veemata Mazi, we believe in using the power of creativity to bring people together and walk with them as they own their stories. We provide safe spaces, specifically for refugees and other populations that have experienced trauma, to connect with others, and express themselves creatively through movement, music, and art. Currently we provide therapeutic interventions through visual arts groups.

Our therapeutic interventions are facilitated by artists trained in trauma-sensitive care, not by mental-health professionals. These interventions do not replace traditional, professional mental health interventions; but rather we believe that they can be supplementary to professional interventions or substitutionary in either the absence of access to professional help or in less severe cases. We empower artists trained in trauma-sensitive facilitation to use their craft to help others process trauma, facilitating spaces of creativity and community that aid trauma survivors on the path towards healing.

One of our core missions at Veemata Mazi is to train and equip local and foreign professional workers and volunteers across Athens and Greece (psychologists, therapists, social workers, students of psychology, ministers, ministry volunteers, and NGO workers) with trauma-specific ministry strategies and skills. Our goal is that these workers will be able to provide high quality, trauma-informed, and transformative care in the organizations they currently work.
